During the reign of Elizabeth I, couples began to dance together. But it wasn’t until the arrival of the American soldiers and jazz music (during the First World War) that the turn out positions became absent in ballroom dance. The Waltz, Foxtrot and One Step or Quick Step as it is known now became the dances we know today. Tango arrived in Britain in 1910 originally from Argentina.
Ballroom remained popular in Britain until the introduction of rock and roll and disco music and now not many of us have been brought up dancing like our grandparents. With the arrival of Strictly Come Dancing back on our screens and adventurous first dances appearing on You Tube, Britain seems to be falling back in love with Ballroom dance.
In a Dance 8 Ballroom class you will learn the basic figures from the different ballroom dances. You will learn routines to specific songs so you can show them off to your friends and family.
Ballroom is a great way to get close to your partner and to enjoy getting fit!
